The primary role of the Youth Minister of Hazelwood Christian Church is to disciple the church’s youth (Grades 6 through 12) and young adult (ages 18 to 25) ministries through biblical disciple making leadership, creative biblical teaching, and strategic planning to develop disciples who make disciples of Jesus Christ.
Leadership
The Youth Minister:
• is responsible for overseeing the planning and implementation of Hazelwood Christian Church’s youth and young adult ministries (Hazelwood Student Ministry), including the vision and strategic plan.
• will work to disciple, train, and equip adult coaches of the youth and young adults so they in turn can disciple, train and equip the students to be disciple makers.
• will create an inviting and healthy church environment that is a safe place for all students to seek and discover the saving grace of Jesus. Therefore, the students can learn to walk with God and make disciples for His glory.
• will work alongside the lead minister, other ministers, and elders to plan the overall direction of the youth and young adult ministries as they work together to achieve the vision and mission of HCC.
• will develop and oversee the assimilation of new youth, young adults, and their families into HCC.
• will work alongside the youth coaches to encourage leadership development and provide opportunity for their growth as followers of Jesus.
• will identify God-given gifts within the volunteer staff and students that are willing to serve and integrate these talents into HSM so that all can participate in building God’s Kingdom.
• will intentionally develop a group of students to disciple as well as be a part of an adult discipleship group.
Teaching & Training
The Youth Minister:
• will be responsible for the development and management of the spiritual formation plan of the youth and young adult ministries.
• will work with youth coaches to develop lessons, sermons, curriculum, small group questions, service opportunities, and social events to help students spiritually mature.
• is expected to teach, as well has provide opportunities for others to teach as well.
• will work in close connection with the worship ministry team leader to create a focused worship.
• will work to develop HSM Sunday school and other relevant classes and programs.
• will work to create other opportunities that will help accomplish the spiritual formation plan. (i.e., seminars, retreats, youth camps, youth mission trips, acts of service, CIY, etc....).
• will work to help equip parents on how to spiritually disciple their own children to be followers of Jesus Christ.
• is expected to continue professional development through training courses, webinars, conferences, etc.... to better equip themself.
• will be asked to participate in the Sunday morning experience. This could include preaching, communion meditations, scripture reading, opening, or closing of worship service.
Administration
The Youth Minister:
• will provide oversight for the day-to-day operation of HSM. (Communication to students, parents, HSM coaches, social media posts, finances, budgets, planning events, transportation, etc....)
• will participate in weekly staff meetings with all ministerial staff to create strategies and plans to implement and communicate HCC’s overall goals.
• will oversee business decisions for HSM, set yearly budgets, collect and distribute funds for events, purchase needed items, etc.…. in collaboration with church leadership.
• will directly oversee the HSM youth and young adult schedules in relation to the overall church calendar.
• will create yearly goals that will be discussed and assessed with the lead minister.
• will need a working knowledge of basic church audio/visual, projector, ProPresenter, Microsoft office, and Apple programs.
Outreach
The Youth Minister:
• will work to foster a culture of outreach within HSM.
• will help develop creative ways to engage the church in reaching and loving the community, especially youth-oriented environments.
• will live a life as an example focused on reaching others with the love of Jesus.
• will work to create cross-generational opportunities for the youth to serve and be discipled by our older generation.
Pastoral
The Youth Minister:
• will provide basic crisis, pre-marital and general counseling for youth and young adults as one is comfortable.
• will engage the youth in their personal activities to build relationships and better connect with HCC families. HCC has students that attend 3-4 different schools plus home school.
• will officiate weddings and funerals if requested or delegated from the lead minister.
• will be the primary staff contact with new and visiting youth and their families of the church.
• will help the lead minister regarding hospital and in-home visits as needed.
• will share emergency calling duties with the other ministers of the church.
• may be scheduled to participate in visiting and providing communion to shut-ins.
Working Relationships
The Youth Minister:
• will work alongside the lead minister, Staff and elders in all matters of leadership.
• is accountable to the lead minister and elders of Hazelwood Christian Church.
• will be working with the HSM volunteer staff to accomplish the youth ministry.
Terms of Employment
• This is a salary position. The corresponding salary and vacation time will be reviewed at least annually and determined by the elders.
• Evaluations will be conducted annually. The first year of employment they will be more frequent.
• This position includes at least 2 weeks of vacation as well as the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day, unless those days occur on a Sunday whereby the following Monday will be considered the holiday. This is negotiable depending on years of experience in ministry.
• Vacation schedules are to be coordinated through the lead minister of Hazelwood Christian Church.
Desired Qualifications for Youth Minister
• Called by the Holy Spirit to shepherd God’s Church and youth.
• Meets the Biblical qualifications for the role of Elder/Minister as outline in 1 Timothy and Titus.
• Passion to preach and teach God’s Word.
• Passion for Youth and a desire for them to learn to trust in Jesus.
• Evident prayer life and a zeal for the Word.
• Has a proven track record of working well with others.
• Ability to work with a broad diversity of people.
• Passion for people and reaching the lost for Christ.
• Organized skills in administrative management.
• Creative and proficient in written communication.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited Bible College.
• Is visionary, self-motivated, creative, and innovative in ministry thinking.
• Exemplifies the humility and servant attitude of Christ.
